Influencing the World

I was looking at the 2009 Time 100 and saw that one of the most influential people in the world is a children’s book writer. Jeff Kinney is the author/illustrator of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. These books are hilarious. But what I love about this writer/illustrator is that he still has a day job. I have a certain affinity to writers with day jobs. Hunger Games Wins SLJ Battle

I just found out what I already knew would happen... The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins won the Battle of the Kids' Books sponsored by School Library Journal. Several authors served as judges for the rounds, and Lois Lowry made the final decision. I LOVED the Hunger Games. It was my favorite book of 2008. Is Ning the New Black?

I first found out about Ning when I joined my UGA alumni group. It's a great networking tool and somewhat addictive. Now I’ve noticed authors like Sarah Dessen and Maureen Johnson are starting to use Ning as a social network. When you think about it, it makes perfect sense.
