The Ant Nebula

The Ant Nebula is one of my favorite pictures from the Hubble Telescope.
This nebula resides in our galaxy between 3,000 and 6,000 light years from Earth. NASA released this image in Feburary 2001.
To me, what is most interesting is that this plantery nebula shows the last stage in the life of a Sun-like star, which gives us a clue of our own Sun’s fate when that time comes.
Okay, enough of my space geek fest.
I hope that every one has a great weekend and that all of you get some writing done on your projects.

Hey Lynne! It is gorgeous. I remember when it first came out, I used to just stare at it. Even death in space is beautiful.

That’s gorgeous. I used to get lost staring at space pictures, and astronomy is one of my favorite types of science.

Wow! I’ve seen lots of slide shows from the Hubble Telescope, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen this particular one. Simply gorgeous!

Gwen and Margo: Yes, it is so gorgeous. I really should think about getting a poster for my office since this is one of my favorites.
Medeia: I LOVES me some astronomy. When I was a kid I would stare at space pictures all the time. I really should write me some sci-fi one day. Ha.
