The Elixir of Writing

I hope all of you in the United States had a great 4th of July. Those of you who have corporate jobs hopefully have a company holiday today.

Today may be a day that you can relax and maybe even work on your project. Here’s a quote by Elizabeth Lyon from her craft book, A Writer’s Guide to Fiction, that can remind of us all why we even bother to be novelists:

“The elixir of writing fiction for many of us is the undiluted freedom to project onto paper imagined people and events with the force of emotion we usually reserve for real life. The elixir, carried by a writer’s emotion, transfers to readers, placing them under a spell and carrying them away into a virtual world.”

I’m taking a much needed vacation this week, and I hope to really get immersed in my novel’s world — while also enjoying some fun and relaxation. I’ll still be posting this week so stay tuned…
