This World We Live In

I’m a really big fan of Susan Beth Pfeffer‘s books. I was a total fan geek when she responded to my email and sent me an autographed bookplate.

I just finished reading the last book in her trilogy, This World We Live In.

I’ve already talked about the first two books, Life as We Knew It and The Dead & The Gone, and how much I loved them — even though they made me ponder if I had enough food stocked in my pantry.

I’ve always been mesmerized by disasters and other types of dystopian fiction, but what makes these books in the trilogy so resonating are the characters and their relationships. And I also love how the author brought the protagonists from the two previous books together for this last installment.

These characters will stay with you after you have finished reading these books. And although it looks like the author has finished writing new material, I wouldn’t mind at all if she revisited this world in the future.

  1. My daughter has the first book upstairs. I’ll have to give it a chance! Thanks for the reminder.

The first book totally freaked me out (in a good way). I definitely have to put the other two on my reading list!

  3. Hi Karen!

I love Pfeffer’s stories, too! I first started reading titles by Susan Beth Pfeffer when I was around 10 or 11 years old (over 25 years ago, wow, time flies!). Thanks for the recommendation on this trilogy; I’ve heard a lot of good things about it! Now I must go search for this at the library . . . :)

Btw how COOL you got an autographed bookplate!

Laura and Crystal: Definitely read LIFE AS WE KNEW IT. It’s a great intro to the world, but what I like about these books is that can be easily read as stand-alones.

Anna: When I read LIFE AS WE KNEW IT, I really started thinking about my food strategy. I think it’s because of this book that I actually have food in my pantry now. Ha. At first, I only had a few cans. I wouldn’t have lasted a week!

Sounds like my kind of story – but it’s not I’ve read before. I’ll definitely put it on the list :) Thanks!

This sounds like a good read! I will check it out.

Also, I wanted you to know that I left an award for you over at my blog. I love reading your posts and wanted to let you know.
