Okay so my co-workers were talking about this Paranormal Activity movie. A movie that I haven’t heard of (yes, I must have been under a rock). I was very intrigued by the premise—loving scary movies and ghosts and such. Plus, I read the story how the director Oren Peli only spent like $15K but so far the movie has grossed about $60 MILLION so far at the box office—quite a nice return.

But then my co-workers kept telling me how this movie was SO scary—THE scariest movie of all time—so I thought just to be on the safe side to go watch a matinee on Saturday. With a friend. My co-workers compared notes with me today.
First of all, the movie wasn’t THE scariest movie of all time; however, there was something about it. I would say CREEPY. And sometimes creepy can be worse than scary. It reminded me how those early Hitchcock movies could get you holding your breath—all about the withholding and the suspense. I found myself doing this several times throughout the movie. And the last 30 minutes? Well, let’s just say that I did think about it later and it still creeped me out.
I also thought about the storytelling—there isn’t anything extraordinary about it—the film is made with that “mockumentary” feel like THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, but the fact that it was just this everyday middle-class couple dealing with this “thing” in their house—sort made it seem like it could happen to YOU.
It made me wonder, what DOES happen when I sleep at night?
I can honestly say, I DON’T want to know!
