It’s raining here in Atlanta…again.
And now my roof is leaking. The repairman is up in my attic looking around right now. Who knows how much it will cost. It’s always something! Ah, the beauty of home ownership.
But I digress…
Recently, I stayed up to finish a really good book. The Everafter by Amy Huntley. I found this book during one of my bookstore browsing visits. The first thing that captured me was the beautiful cover. You really have to see it in person to get the full effect. The second thing that got me was the premise (from the jacket flap):
“Madison Stanton doesn’t know where she is or how she got there. But she does know this—she is dead. And alone, in a vast, dark space. The only company she has in this place are luminescent objects that turn out to be all the things Maddy lost while she was alive. And she discovers that with these artifacts, she can reexperience—and sometimes even change—moments from her life.”
After reading the first chapter, I was hooked and happily took the book home with me. I loved the voice of Maddy and the sprinkle of a little Physics (I mean who doesn’t like the particle-wave theory and quantum mechanics? Okay, maybe that’s just me, LOL).
If you like the book Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin, you will also like this one (in fact, Zevin has given a blurb for this book).
Not only does Huntley give us a look of what can happen after death, she also gives us Maddy, a young girl who learns many lessons about life—most importantly, the lesson of letting go.
I really enjoyed this book. Plus, I also nominated it for a Cybils Award. I hope that it makes the finalist list.
You should definitely read it!
