Back in July, I was lamenting about the free wi-fi at Barnes & Noble because it would be just another procrastination tactic that I would use instead of working on my novel.
I just got in from Borders tonight, and I found out that they are also going to have free wi-fi starting in October sometime. This may be just for the Atlanta stores but I’m like, “Gah!!”
But seriously, maybe it’s a good thing for people who don’t have the luxury of internet access. It’s better than going to the library because you don’t have to worry about limited time, and I guess as long as you buy a coffee or something that they won’t kick you out.
I knew it would have to happen sooner or later, the B&N on Akers Mill is always teeming with action now that there is free wi-fi there. Maybe they are night-time novelists like me — moonlighting away on their projects. So it was only a matter of time before Borders offered the free service as well.
But seriously. I’m really going to have to be strong. I can’t surf the net when I should be writing! I always start by doing “research” and then seem to end up on TMZ.com.
I should really really learn to write at home. I have a whole office that I never use for writing and that’s a damn shame.

Your own (unshared) office at home? Unused? Hmmm…
I think maybe the answer is to redecorate it. Fashion (or refashion) it in a way that makes you feel energetic and creative. What color energizes you the most? Start by painting the walls that color, and go from there.
Man, I wish I had a whole office to myself. Now I’m just jealous. “And envious and begrudging and discontented and jaundiced…”
(kevin henkes lovers, holla!)
Ha, ha. I know it’s so sad and really a shame. I used to write in my office all the time. I think you’re right. Maybe I should redecorate it — paint it different color. And I definitely need a new chair. And maybe a bigger monitor. And maybe change my desk to face the window or something. And unplug the cable modem.
