I just finished up Week #11 of the Summer Challenge. I have two weeks left and then it’s done.
But Milestone #11 is significant for me because I have actually met and surpassed the Challenge goal of 45,500 words by 842 words. Woo hoo!
So, my personal goal for this challenge has always been to write 60K draft words. I’m now wondering if I can do it. I have 14 days left, which means that if I write 1000 words a day, I can reach that goal. Not sure if I can do it, but I think I’m going to try!
Last week, I got a good grasp on my Act 2 scenes, and while they still need work, at least I have the skeleton of most of them. I think for the next 14 days, I’m going to work on my Act 3 draft scenes. If I strive to do this, I could have a full fledged draft by August 31st. 60K words for a first draft and then I can start the revision process.
One thing that I’ve learned from all of this is that structure works. I have to admit I was one of those writers who thought you should be “inspired” and you should be, but sometimes the work must come before the inspiration.
Here are my stats for Week #11:
Word count for Week #11: 5,771
M-679
T-2,019
W-809
TH-679
F-502
S-1,083
Total for the Summer Challenge: 46,342
Words to Challenge Goal: +842 over
Words for Personal Challenge Goal: 13,658
Here’s a great quote for the next milestone. It comes from Writing Starts with the Breath: Embodying Your Authentic Voice by Laraine Herring
“Inspiration doesn’t descend like a lightning bolt from the gods. Inspiration comes instead from a steady breath, a solid foundation, and a commitment to the process.”
Off to strive to meet my personal Challenge goal…
