I had another good writing session that went late into the night. Plus, I’ve settled back into my old writing space—my bed! Hey it works for Meg Cabot.
It’s now confirmed that I’m a night owl writer. I can get up in the morning but there’s something about the late night. Hearing the crickets. The settling noises of the house. My world sleeping while I’m creating.
I *think* I figured out a plot puzzle that happens in Act 3 that I need to set up in Act 2. It’s been bugging me. There has been a lot of different angles to this but maybe this solution will work. I’m not too pressed about it—I can always revise it later.
I also used a strategy I learned in a craft book I got from the library. Lessons from a Lifetime of Writing by David Morrell.
In this craft book, he talks about “written conversations.” Basically, you have a conversation with yourself on a page about a story problem. It helps when you have hit a wall in your novel and these conversations help with pushing through the problem. It also helps with story ideas.
I tried it out last night and surprisingly ended up having some interesting ideas about my antagonist, Kendra. I’m trying to figure out how she ticks and how she relates to my protagonist, Grace. I mean bitches are not born, they are made. LOL. So I think I’m getting a better idea of the kind of person she is.
I need to have more written conversations with myself!
I think I’m hitting my stride. I can’t wait to write again tonight!
I post about the craft and how I balance writing with a day job. Other topics include books, authors, conferences, and diversity related to literature for kids and teens.
