Summer Challenge Milestone #6

I have to admit Week #6 had lots of distractions, but I always knew the Summer Challenge was not going to be easy. I’ll keep pressing forward.

This is sort of halfway so no use in giving up now. A lot can happen in the next 7 weeks.

One interesting thing happened in Week 6—present tense. I’ve never written in present tense but I tried it out for a scene and it was compelling. My novel takes place in a 3 month period so it could work. I’m not going to stress over trying to change the whole draft over to present tense, though. I’ll wait for the revision in September.

Anyway, not a great week but not a bad one either. Here’s how it went down:

Total for Week 6: 2,589

M-311
T-336
W-0
TH-184
F- 719
SAT – 0
SU- 1,039

Total for the Challenge: 24,590

I’m also going to think in positive terms like Samantha does on the Day by Day Writer blog. She’s also doing a writing challenge.

Words to Challenge Goal: 20,910

Here’s the quote for Week #7. It’s another one from the The Resilient Writer: Tales of Rejection and Triumph by 23 Top Authors edited by Catherine Wald.

The quote comes from author of White Oleander, Janet Fitch:

“That’s the dividing line between writers and would-be writers. A writer will put up with the pain, the anxiety, and all the crap to get what they want, which is their development as an artist.”

I have to admit, the Challenge is getting well—challenging. But nothing worth having is ever easy.

Off to write my Act 2 scenes.
