I just found out what I already knew would happen…
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins won the Battle of the Kids’ Books sponsored by School Library Journal.
Several authors served as judges for the rounds, and Lois Lowry made the final decision.
I LOVED the Hunger Games. It was my favorite book of 2008. If you’ve been under a rock and haven’t yet read this book—you NEED to read it.
It’s a shame that I have to wait until September to read Catching Fire, the second book in the trilogy.
Then there’s the movie! I can’t wait to see who they cast as Katniss, Peeta, Gale, and my favorite character, Rue. I wonder how they plan to portray some of those scenes? And what kind of rating will it get considering the novel’s content? Probably PG-13.
Suzanne Collins does a great job with her world-building and characterization. Go visit the Scholastic website, which has everything Hunger Game-ish for readers, including interviews with the author.
You can read more about the SLJ Battle of Books here.
I post about the craft and how I balance writing with a day job. Other topics include books, authors, conferences, and diversity related to literature for kids and teens.

Ha, ha. Tee. Get up from under that rock and get thee to the bookstore! You’ll have to tell me what you thought of the book when you’re done.
